L' Equinozio d'autunno è una delle festività cardine della ruota dell'anno.
Una delle ultime porte dell'anno agricolo che annuncia la chiusura della stagione e come durante l'ultima luna piena prima dell'equinozio segna l'ormai imminente avvicinarsi dell'inverno.
È il momento di fare i conti di ciò che abbiamo seminato durante l'anno e cosa abbiamo raccolto , è tempo di preparazione sia dal punto di vista simbolico spirituale ma anche da quello materiale.
L'Equinozio d'autunno è quel momento della rivoluzione terrestre intorno al Sole in cui quest'ultimo si trova allo zenit dell'equatore.
Dall'equinozio autunnale, la forza del sole inizia a diminuire, fino al solstizio invernale, quando il sole inizia a crescere d'intensità e i giorni diventano nuovamente più lunghi delle notti.
Questa festività è quindi da sempre stata molto importante , seconda del raccolto , è un tempo di equilibrio dove la luce inizia a dispendersi favorendo l'oscurità.
In alcune tradizioni questa festa veniva chiamata Mabon , il giovane Dio della vegetazione, della caccia e dei raccolti , figlio di Modron , il cui culto era diffuso in tutta la Britannia settentrionale.
La Pronuncia di Mabon è “mèiban”.
Con il neo paganesimo in memoria di queste antiche popolazioni la festività legata all'Equinozio autunnale viene festeggiato con il nome di questo Dio , Mabon.
Erroneamente viene stabilita una data precisa a questa festività , in quanto è da sempre legata all'Equinozio.
Secondo la tradizione durante questa giornata venivano organizzate delle passeggiate nei boschi , venivano raccolte piante , foglie , bacche e altri componenti naturali con i quali si adobbava la casa , venivano preparati dei piatti legati ad alimenti tipici del tardo raccolto e si faceva il resoconto di cosa quest'anno aveva portato nelle nostre vite materiali e spirituali.
Un momento silenzioso di quiete e meditazione dove i colori caldi iniziano ad avvolgerci unendosi a quelli freddi dell'inverno ormai alle porte.
Questa festività è anche il momento di celebrare le antiche forze e spiriti del mondo , celebrare gli antenati, ringraziare e sentirsi appagati , rilassarsi ed essere felici del proprio percorso.
